Retina Specialists of Alabama Patient Information
What to Expect at Your Visit

Welcome to Retina Specialists of Alabama, LLC.   Our physicians and staff are here to serve you and are honored to be chosen for the care of your most precious sense organ, the eye. Your initial examination and testing will be comprehensive.  Since we endeavor to complete all tests and to make treatment recommendations at the time of your examination, please allow several hours for your visit.

Your pupils will be dilated in order to perform a complete examination. Pupillary dilation will make your eyes sensitive to bright light when you leave our office.  It is best to plan for someone to drive you from our office.  The pupillary dilation will also prevent you from being able to focus, and reading may be difficult for you for the remainder of the day. You may wish to take this into consideration in your work or school schedule.  These inconveniences are temporary and necessary for adequate retinal examination.

Our office staff will ask you many questions which will enable our physicians to have a complete picture of your health. You can help us by bringing all prescription medications, or a list of each medication and dosage with you to the office.

We will respect your personal physician preference.  However, you may see several members of our physician team during your evaluation and course of treatment.  Because optimal treatment in the critical care of retinal disease often remains a matter of judgment, availability of different physicians within our practice gives you the opportunity of having the recommendations of more than one physician.  Also, you may be offered the services of another RSA physician to expedite your care when your preferred physician is not available or has been delayed.  It is always your choice whether or not you wish to take advantage of these options.

If you schedule surgery you will be given specific and individual instructions about your case. You may refer to our postoperative care instructions (post-op Laser or post-op Surgery) for general information about recovery from surgery.  Surgical candidates traveling from a distance may make arrangements to tentatively schedule surgery during the same visit as the initial consultation or may receive consultation advice and return at a later date for surgery. Patients coming to RSA from out of the country may coordinate arrangements through our international patient services coordinator at the numbers or E-mail listed below.  Subsequent follow-up care can be coordinated with your local eye doctor, if desired. Arrangements for postoperative follow-up care with your local doctor should be made prior to surgery.

Be assured that everything will be done to complete your examination as promptly as possible.  We will devote to you as much time as necessary to help you with your individual problem.  We encourage your questions and invite a family member to accompany you to the exam room for your visit with the doctor
